Fixed Departure 2025/2026:
The Around Nanga Parbat & Mazino Pass Trek is a thrilling and adventurous journey that leads to a mesmerizing exploration of the majestic Nanga Parbat and the challenging Mazino Pass. This unforgettable trek offers breathtaking views, picturesque landscapes, and an opportunity to immerse in the beauty of nature. The “Around Nanga Parbat and Mazino Pass trek” is a daring adventure that offers a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with the legendary “Killer Mountain.” The expedition through the Rupal Valley and the breathtaking views of Nanga Parbat’s south face leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of adventurers. As they cross the Mazeno La and relax in the beauty of Fairy Meadows, they are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment like no other.
Nanga Parbat, standing tall at 8,125 meters, proudly holds its position as the westernmost peak of the Great Himalayan range, making it one of Pakistan’s five 8000 m peaks. This magnificent mountain range spans an impressive 20 km, forming a colossal massif that captivates all who behold it. Aptly named “The Naked Mountain,” Nanga Parbat’s radiant white peak can be seen from as far as 100 km to the south, beckoning adventurers to explore its treacherous slopes. However, the journey known as “Around Nanga Parbat” does not entirely encircle the mountain; instead, it covers half the distance, commencing from Tarashing in the Rupal Valley on the southern side.
The Rupal Valley, accessed via the Astor Valley, offers a gateway to the majestic Nanga Parbat. To reach this awe-inspiring destination, one must traverse the KKH (Karakoram Highway) until reaching Jaglot, approximately 60 km south of Gilgit. From there, the journey continues into the Rupal Valley, where breathtaking sights await the intrepid trekkers.
The south face of Nanga Parbat, renowned as the Rupal face, stands as a monumental challenge for mountaineers and a mesmerizing spectacle for trekkers. This sheer face ascends over 5000 m from the valley floor to the summit, treating adventurers to a heart-stopping, close-up encounter with its grandeur. The daring souls who have reached the summit without supplemental oxygen are few, and the first-ever ascent was an extraordinary solo achievement by the German mountaineer, Herman Buhl, in 1953.
On the other side, the north Raikot face presents an awe-inspiring sight as it dramatically plunges over 7000 m from the summit down to the Indus River, carving out one of the world’s deepest gorges. This natural wonder captivates the imagination and challenges the adventurous spirit of those who dare to explore its depths.
The trek known as “Around Nanga Parbat” takes a daring turn when trekkers must cross the Mazeno La to reach Fairy Meadows. This high camp is a celestial paradise nestled amidst the mountains, offering a well-deserved respite after the challenging journey.
As adventurers venture through the Astor Valley and into the Rupal Valley, they will encounter diverse cultures that add richness to the experience. The Astor Valley is predominantly inhabited by Sunni Muslims, with a minority of 25% Shia Muslims residing along the upper tributaries. The primary language spoken in this region is Shina, with Urdu serving as the secondary language for men. Although English is rare among the villagers, the warmth and hospitality of the locals transcend language barriers.
In conclusion, the trek “Around Nanga Parbat” is a daring escapade that offers a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with the legendary “Killer Mountain.” The expedition through the Rupal Valley and the breathtaking views of Nanga Parbat’s south face leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of adventurers. As they cross the Mazeno La and bask in the beauty of Fairy Meadows, they are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment like no other. Moreover, the cultural encounters along the way remind us of the diversity that enriches our world. So, embark on this extraordinary journey and create memories that will be etched in your soul forever.
